First Sunday of Epiphany

All four Gospels record the baptism of Jesus—because in the waters of the Jordan, we see the heart of the gospel revealed. When Jesus steps into a baptism of repentance he does not need, he identifies fully with sinners, taking our place before he ever takes up the cross. In his baptism, the promised King and the suffering Servant are united in one person, and we discover the deepest comfort of the Christian faith: everything Christ does, he does for you.
